This week’s game was going to test our large squad to the full after five players were ruled out through injury or illness. Our opponents Swavesey have proved in the past to be tough, physical and direct foes with lots of pace. Additionally they sat just above us early part of the season.
However Chatteris started very brightly and soon got into some good passing moves. Patrick Ford in the wide left position found good space and often caused trouble. Our new back four looked very solid with Billy Dean having his first game of the season being exceptionally solid.
It took Chatteris just seven minutes to break through, excellent work from Gary Jackson on the right wing, beating two players and delivering a good cross, Alex Macrae tried his luck with a first time shot and it was blocked only for the Tyler Crane to finish smartly with a left foot volley from 6 yards out.
Both Jackson and Ransome went close in the next five minutes and a number of Chatteris corners caused the Swavesey defence many problems. On 17 minutes Josh Joyce released Tyler Crane who ran in on goal and finished calmly to double our lead.
On 30 minutes Swavesey thought they had scored when a good shot beat Ryan n goal but only to be bravely headed away by the tiny figure of Josh Seaton, this lead to a scramble and it was Seaton again getting a good header allowed Frankie to clear.
Just 4 minutes later a Joyce flick on was met with a cheeky back heel from Mitch Dawson found the net.
HT CTYFC B 3-0 Swavesey
Just two minutes into the second half Joyce went close following a Macrae cross. Five minutes later Crane played Alex Macrae in down the inside left channel and to all of our surprise and delight Alex was 100% positive by running and shooting from 12 yard into the far corner. 4-0
By now it was pretty much one-way traffic and it seemed to be the Joyce/Jackson shooting gallery both going close and several occasions. In fact Jackson was unlucky when he hit the bar in the 52 minute.
An inspired call from assistant manager Luke Harris and Alex Macrae was taken off and Josh Joyce took his place up front. On 60 minutes Frankie Ransome's through ball found the on-rushing Josh Joyce who calmly finished into the far corner.
When require our defence held firm, except in the 68 minute when a powerful run down the right saw the Swavesey player shoot well from 12 yards and it was well saved by Ryan.
The final whistle was greeted with cheers from the crowd. At times these boys played very well. Some of the passing and moving was a delight to see and Swavesey had little to counter act it.
MOTM went to the very solid Josh Seaton mainly for his spectacular goal line clearance when 2-0 up. What a difference that could have been should Swavesey of scored.
Also a big huge thank you to Ryan White who played rugby for Ely in Wymondham (nr Norwich) in the morning, rushed back to play in goal for us this afternoon and kept a clean sheet... Cheers my man!!!!
Very well done boys and get well soon to those missing.
