Again down to illness, injury and unavailability Chatteris travelled to Littleport with a bare squad of 14. On a bright a breezy morning Chatteris started as such, and with our front two of Tyler and Alex posing all sorts of problems for the home defence. Both wide players were asked to give more effort and both Gary and Mitch responded. Mitch especially seems to be a man on a mission.
On 5mins our early pressure told when Frankie Ransome released Tyler into the inside left channel with a slide rule pass, Tyler crossed and the approaching Gary Jackson forced a last gasp sliding effort by the Littleport defender who turned the ball into his own goal.
This spurred these boys into even more, Frankie and Josh were finding some good passing while others around were finding good space. Jackson crossed well from the right on 19mins, Ransome troubled the defender into an error and Tyler Crane pounced onto the loose ball to finish from 10 yards our.
A few chances went begging over the next couple of mins often created by the result of Macrae’s clever inventiveness. Approaching the 30 minute mark Chatteris practically secured the game. A long Ransome throw found it’s way to eventual MOTM Mitch Dawson who laid the ball back to Josh Joyce to crack home from the edge of the box with a sweet left foot finish. On 29mins a throw from the left wing found Frankie Ransome who rolled his marker and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards. Bang on 30 minutes Joyce broke from his half way line and attacked the left wing; with great skill he crossed for Gary Jackson who slammed the ball into the roof of the net for a 5-o half time lead.
The second half started much the same as the first with Chatteris playing some lovely flowing and passing football. A corner from Joyce in the 46 min was only half cleared, Tyler Crane hooked the ball high and goal bound and it wasn’t stopped by either keeper or defender as it dropped into the net.
On 49 minutes Ryan White was finally beaten after 187 minutes of clean sheets when three of our defenders were asleep to allow a long ball to be met by the one and only Littleport striker in our half. To be fair he calmly ran in on goal and slotted passed Ryan.
What happened 6 minutes later brought joy to all on the sidelines. Joyce played a lovely diagonal ball down the right for the pacey Jackson. He cut back and laid up Frankie who instead of shooting, crossed low to the far post, the on rushing Daniel Mott arrived and lashed the ball into the roof of the net via the underside of the bar.
Unfortunately the last 15 minutes seemed be a little of an anti climax with Chatteris players only at half pace and we also lost our shape. Littleport had therefore their best spell of the game but nothing else got through our defence. We will have to play better for the full 70 minutes against the Eaton Socon’s and Comberton’s of this league.
Nether the less a very good team performance and win to keep us in touch. Well-done boys… Remember no training this week, as it’s half term…
