The new look U13 started off rather anxiously against Bar Hill, a team that already played in the A league last season. The boys were not quite used to each other and in some cases their new positions, but they all worked hard and created some chances, but couldn't find the finishing touch. (This might have had something to do with the lack of bounce, as the grass on the pitch was extremely long). It was therefore Bar Hill who scored first when they got the ball into the box and, despite Matthijs saving it twice, the Chatteris players couldn't get it away and Bar Hill scored on the third attempt. The boys were dismayed, but went straight back to work, with some great interfering work by Alex and Mitchell at the back and some great passing up front by Jordan D., Jack R. and Jake K., but chances were not capitalized on. It was Luke who eventually scored the equalizer when Bar Hill couldn't get rid off the ball in the box either and he wacked the rebound of a header into the net. Much relief and Jake K. put the Chatteris side ahead with an individual run towards the goal which he finished off with a great shot from the side.
Then it was half time for a still very nervous Chatteris side, but again the team talk at half time must have settled the nerves, because in the second half the Chatteris boys came out very strong and dominated the match completely. Very soon after the restart Luke scored again after some great passing work between the boys provided him with a chance at close range and finally Asa got his foot in as well when Jordan D. provided him with a great ball which he controlled and coolly slotted into the net. The reserve players came on and slotted neatly into the team, with Matthew L. straight away getting the opportunity to score, following some neat passing into the box, and he didn't miss! Bar Hill were very disheartened by now and gave the Chatteris team much more room to play flowing football across the whole pitch. Jake K. ended up with the ball again and he lobbed it neatly over the keeper to make it 6-1. The Bar Hill keeper kicked the ball out weakly and Asa quickly got hold of it, ran back towards the goal and scored for 7-1 and he also got the last goal of the match when he headed the ball into the net following a corner, so the final score was 8-1 for Chatteris. A confidence-boosting start to the season with all the boys working extremely hard for the team.
