AWAY TO NEEDINGWORTH 02/05/10
Sunday saw the lads travel to struggling Needingworth who started this season from scratch with no previous experience. Our boys seemed up for it and although they would be playing on a full size pitch that didn’t really seem to faze them.
The first half we didn’t close them down quick enough and as a result we conceded an early goal. Throughout the half we did have good possession but just couldn’t convert the many chances being made. Ben Chapman came close with a lovely taken free kick, but their keeper was equally as good. HT 1-0 to Needingworth.
The second half was much the same and it looked to be swinging our way especially when Charlie Sibthorp scored within the first minuet from kick off. We pressed them but didn’t off load the ball and pass the ball with a purpose. This was the story for this half and it was frustrating to see when I know the team can usually pass the ball well. In the end it didn’t look like the game was going to go in our favour and when Needingworth broke to take the lead late in the second I just new we couldn’t get anything from the game. Credit to the back four throughout this game who made some impressive clearances especially George Barker who as the skipper was leading by example. Unlucky about the slip mate but well done overall and throughout the season. FT 2-1 to Needingworth.
Man of the Match went to Jack Dean for a good first half performance. To be fair and if I could give the award to more players then most of the team would have got a shout for it today. Needingworth deserved the win, hanging in there when our boys were attacking then finishing when given the chance. They believed in themselves more and I know we can play better! This result now places us bottom of the league. We’ve played harder teams this season and have learnt how to hold them in the first half. However when we play teams that are similar to ourselves you seem to struggle which is completely mind boggling. Never mind, that’s life. I hope you all play the last game of the season against Soham on Tuesday with 10 men inside you and give it everything to go out on a high. Thanks again to all of the parents for showing your support to the team. Thanks also to Andy Shaw for running the line. See you all Tuesday.
PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT TO THE TEAM ON THEIR LAST GAME OF THE SEASON. GET BEHIND CHATTERIS AND GET BEHIND THE U11B LADS!!! |
